ZANE O. VAUGHAN

October 21, 1927 — September 26, 2017

After a short illness, Zane O. Vaughan, age 89, of Crestview, Florida, passed away on September 26, 2017. He was born the youngest of eight children to Albert Columbus Vaughan and Jonnie Jewell Brown Vaughan on October 1, 1927 in Hacoda, Alabama. He spent his early life living between Florala, Alabama and Paxton, Florida and graduated from Paxton High School in 1945.
During his first two years at the University of Florida in Gainesville he worked summers in Hartford, Connecticut.  It was during those summers that he met his wife Mary C. Vaughan. He then moved to Hartford Connecticut and finished his undergraduate degree at Hillyer College.  In the following years, he continued his education, earning a Masters degree and Sixth Year in Education.  After marrying in 1949 and having his only child, David Hunter Vaughan, he moved with his family to Marlborough, Connecticut. He lived there, working as a teacher of English and History at Manchester High School until his retirement.  He moved with his wife to Crestview in 1989 to spend time with family and friends still in the area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Crestview, and while able, he was active in the Men's Club.  Although a very private man, those who knew him remember his quick wit, vast knowledge of aircraft, and kindness to animals.

He is survived by Mary, his wife of 68 years, his son David, daughter-in-law, Barbara, and two grandchildren, David Wayne and Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews; and the family of Dr. B. J. Brown of DeFuniak Springs.

The will be no calling hours. Funeral services will take place at the First United Methodist Church . 599 Eighth Avenue, November 11 at 11:00 A. M. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Youth Group of the First United Methodist Church of Crestview, FL.
