Mr. Jerry Alford, age 83 passed away late Wednesday night, February 28, 2018 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center ER. He was born September 17, 1934 in the Bridge Creek Community, the oldest child of William Purlis Alford and Myra Bell Murphy Alford. After attending school in Ponce de Leon Jerry worked for some time with Rivard Chevrolet but then joined the United States Army where he served a tour in Germany. Later, he reenlisted and served another tour in Korea before eventually returning to Bridge Creek Community. He worked as Service Manager for John Creel Ford. After leaving that position he was associated with his brother, at Earl M. Alford Construction Company for some twenty years until he and his brother both retired. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman but his favorite past time was fishing. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Lamar and sister-in-law Faye and his brother-in-law Malcolm Laird. Jerry was an active member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Among survivors are his siblings, Ann Laird, Charles Alford and wife Joyce, Earl Alford and wife Rick and David Alford and wife Bonnie. His nieces and nephews, Donna, Debra and husband Vic, Chuck, S.J., Greg and wife Tonya, Pamela and husband Ken, Clint and wife Bridget, Kelly, Davey, Catherine, Danny and wife Amanda and Bret and wife Tara.
Jerry’s nephews will be pallbearers for their uncle. Memorials may be made in Jerry Alford’s memory to the Building Loan at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 1125 Line Road, Ponce deLeon, Florida 32455. A time of visitation will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10 until 11 A.M. in Sandy Creek Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 11;00 A.M. in the church with Pastor Toby Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the Alford Family Plot in Sandy Creek Cemetery.
