Mr. Warren W. Baylet, age 91 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Saturday night, May 18, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born December 7, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the son of John Samuel Baylet and Esther Griess Baylet. On Warren’s 20th birthday, December 7, 1941, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor with the Army Air Corps which he had joined when he was seventeen years old. He spent some twenty years in what became The United States Air Force, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict in Hawaii, Christmas Island and other Pacific Islands, England, Iran and the United States, retiring in 1962. He and his wife, Gertha Howell Baylet then moved back to her hometown area of DeFuniak Springs where they made their home. Warren began a second career with civil service on Eglin Air Force Base and after another seventeen years retired again when he turned 57. In 1986 Gertha was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, a fight she and Warren battled together for ten years. Warren saw to his wife’s needs during that ten year period and he and his children tried to give her semblance of reality until on October 1, 1996 when she went home and won victory over the disease. Warren filled the remainder of his life enjoying his family and golf with his golfing buddies at the DeFuniak Springs Country Club. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s football fan. Like most guys from “The Greatest Generation” he enjoyed western movies, the backbone of American values and loved Marshall Matt Dillon’s ability and techniques in keeping the peace in the rough and tumble Dodge City. A little known fact, especially with his golfing buddies, is that he would from time to time catch episodes of the Sopranos. Warren spent the last years of his life enjoying his children and grandchildren but at the same time looking forward to the day when he would be reunited with his Gertha. Warren's family has asked that a note of sincere thanks and appreciation be given to Dr. James W. Howell, Marty Brooks and Nichole Coffield for their love and caring of their father.
Among survivors are his children; Dale Baylet and wife Suzanne of Atlanta. Shirley Baylet Eggers and husband Harold of Atlanta. Annette Baylet Jones and husband Tommy of Seguin, Texas.
