Miss Wanda Lei Flournoy, age 62 passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in a Mobile, Alabama healthcare facility. She was born October 24, 1952 in Gainesville, Florida, the daughter of John Alfred Flournoy and Ovie Ann Driggers Flournoy Martin.
Wanda graduated from Walton High School with the Class of 1971. She then received her AA Degree from Northwest Florida State College. After moving to Pensacola she became employed with West Florida Hospital as a Computer Programmer, a position she held from 1979 until her retirement in 2001. Wanda was a sports fan, especially the University of Florida Gators, her father’s alma mater. She also loved baseball and was a greeter for the Pensacola Wahoos, the pro baseball team, where she had the opportunity of meeting several celebrities. She loved and adored her family and friends; she kept in touch with them through social media. Wanda’s life was not an easy one, she was met with many obstacles, all of which she met and overcame with grace and elegance. She got her degree, she got a job, one she kept for over twenty years, and lived a rich, full and rewarding life in spite of the hand she was dealt . She was an inspiration to her sister, who watched as Wanda tackled each and every challenge, and Wanda’s inspiration inspired her sister Beth to get a degree and become a teacher in Special Education. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, John A. Flournoy, Jr.
Among survivors are her sister, Jennifer Beth Kirkland and husband Derrick Glenn. Her sister-in-law Gina Flournoy. Her nieces and nephews, Nancy (Jay), Katie (Sidney), Jamie (Matt), Jonathan, Lyndsi (Kevin), Jack, Nathan and Amy (Tyler). Her great nieces and nephews, Brynn, Joel, Alauna, Addison, Calson and Derek. Her aunts and uncles, Grace Driggers, Betty Driggers, Bill (Joann) Driggers, Anne Marie Galloway, Marie (Quinton) Tucker and Harry (Penny) Driggers.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Wanda Lei Flournoy’s memory to Cloverdale Baptist Church, P. O. Box 57, Grand Bay, Alabama 36541. A time of visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 6, 2015 with the funeral beginning at 11 A.M. Friday in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Harry Driggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Flournoy Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
