Mr. Roger Carroll, age 63 of DeFuniak Springs passed away late Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2020 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center ER just two days before his 64th birthday. He was born June 15, 1956 in the old Lakeside Hospital in DeFuniak Springs the son of Walter Thomas Carroll and Ida Lee Slay Carroll. He attended Walton public schools but later transferred to Ponce deLeon schools. After leaving school, Roger like many young guys of that day and age joined the timber industry. With vast acres and acres of timberland in the region employment was always available to those willing to work. In later years, after retirement Roger had time to enjoy his lifelong appreciation of country music, especially George Jones. He was an avid fan of NFL football and would on occasion wet a hook but his favorite enjoyment was driving up to Leonia, where most of the "Carrolls" have roots and visiting family, aunts, uncles, cousins and all they claimed; sitting on the front porch in the cool of the afternoon and rehashing family lore that grew in intensity with each telling.
Roger is survived by his son, B J Carroll, his brothers, Wilton and Donald and Jimmy Ray and Jimmy Ray's wife Lina. Becky Wyant, his former wife and the mother of his son also survives.
In accordance with Roger's wishes he will be cremated and his family will honor him in spreading his ashes in the area of his boyhood home. Friends and family may go on line to view obituaries, offer condolences and sign the guest register at jerryevansfuneralhome.com
