Mrs. Virginia Lathinghouse, 95, passed away October 11, 2022 in Sodalis Assisted Living Facility in DeFuniak Springs. She was born May 6, 1927 in DeFuniak Springs. She was the daughter of Daniel Edward Chester “C.H.” Spence and Bessie Pearl Beauchamp. She attended schools in Walton County, first at Bell School, a one room school house consisting of numerous grades and then went to Walton High. She and her husband Ross were married in 1949. While Ross was employed with the postal service, a career that spanned some 40 years, Virginia was employed in various ways. Many may remember she worked at Christo’s 5 &10, Dorsey Furniture Store, Gulf Appliance Company, and Wise Department Store. She even kept the books for Marie’s Hitching Post. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church on Circle Drive until her health kept her from attending. Others may remember Virginia as the short, very friendly lady who walked religiously around the lakeyard, sometimes ten to twelve times per day. This spirited, talkative, and cheerful lady lived her life to the fullest and will be missed by the “lake people” and by her family and friends.
Among survivors are her sons Charles Cosson (Cheryl) and Floyd Lathinghouse (Patsy). Her three adored grandchildren she treasured are Lisa Witherington (Mark), Mark Lathinghouse (Kris), and Megan Lathinghouse. Her great-grandchildren are Andrew Easterling (Makayla), the twins, Kaylee and Elijah, and the youngest, Bryson MacDonald. She is also survived by her two remaining siblings, Marie Spence Lathinghouse and Guy W. Spence (Phyllis). She is also survived by her sister-in-law Frances Campbell Jones. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ross Lathinghouse, Jr, and her sisters, Iris McCollum, Ann Beamon, and Chestine Henderson.
Finally, we would like to thank the wonderful people at Sodalis Assisted Living and Emerald Coast Hospice for taking such care of our precious Mother. They grew to love her as we have for years.
