Virgil Calvin Bunkley was born September 1, 1955 in DeFuniak Springs to the late Earl Thomas Bunkley, Sr. and Esther Ruth Harris Bunkley. As a young man Virgil began life by attending school in Walton County. After completing school his new adventure would be joining the U. S. Navy in 1973 as an aircraft mechanic. After he received an honorable discharge as a U. S. Veteran and being satisfied with his U.S. Navy adventure he headed for Michigan where he went to work at Army Engineer Corps in Detroit, Michigan as a welder.
He leaves behind to never forget him, his heart, his only child, Americus (Greg) Bunkley McAlpin, three grandchildren, Demetrona Whitsett, Jaylynn McAlpin and Noah McAlpin who together will keep his memory alive. Her also leaves behind to remember him two sisters, Barbara Nell Bunkley and Jackie Bunkley and his brother Earl Thomas, Jr. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. in Mt. Nebo Baptist Church with Bishop Randy E. Williams officiating. Military graveside honors will follow in the Bunkley Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
