Biography

Mrs. Vera Holden, age 82 of DeFuniak Springs passed away late Thursday, April 28, 2011 in Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 26, 1929
in Somerset, Texas the daughter of Paul Reyes, Sr, and Elvira Casias Reyes. She moved with her husband to DeFuniak Springs in 1950 after his retirement from the United States military. For a time she owned and operated Holden Fabrics on Highway 83. Later she enjoyed helping her husband in the operation of his business, The Feed Bag. She loved flowers and enjoyed planting an array of different varieties. She and her husband have been known to frequent the McCormick band where ever they were playing and would dance the night away. In her later years, she enjoyed The Lawrence Welke Show, her favorite, Everybody Loves Raymond and lately Dancing With the Stars. Mrs. Holden was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law Susan Ann Jones Holden and her brothers Victor and Jimmy.


Among survivors are her husband, Lee R. Holden, Sr.; her sons, Edward and wife Marjorie and Lee Roy Holden Jr. Her sisters, Dora, Chanita, Lucy, Emelia, Gloria and her brothers Paul, Jr. and Felix. Her grandchildren, Dette’ Andrews and husband Rodney, Laurie and Steve, Chris Holden and wife Wendi, LeeAnn Wallace and husband Ron, Isaac Holden and wife Ashley, Randal Holden and wife Connie and Kara and Kaylin Douglass. Eight great grandchildren and special family friends, Colleen Sconiers and Missy and Dale Burton also survive.
