Mrs. Tommie Lee Nolin, age 95 of DeFuniak Springs passed away suddenly Thursday, October 24, 2013. She was born July 8, 1918, in Geneva, Alabama the daughter of Thomas Ray Cotton and Oma Lee Padgett Cotton. After attending school in Leonia, when the school burned down she transferred to Ponce deLeon where she played basketball. Graduating from Ponce deLeon High School she married her husband Thomas Nolin, a marriage that would span some sixty nine years. At age 20 both she and her husband began their college education together at University of Florida, both earning Master’s Degrees. Tommie taught first grade in Stark, Florida for thirty one years and when she reached age 62 she and her husband returned to DeFuniak Springs to make their home. They had been season ticket holders for UF games for over a half a century.
Back home in DeFuniak Springs Tommy was a member of seventeen different clubs, and organizations but following UF Football was her favorite past time, as a matter of fact, she had watched last Saturday’s game on television. She is predeceased by her husband who passed away in 2007 and her sister, Maisie Helms Lewelling.
Among survivors are her son Doug Nolin and wife Shirley of Westville, Her brother, Bill Cotton and wife Mary Ethel of Hastings, Florida. Her grandsons, Ross Nolin and Reed Nolin. One great grandson, Zachary Nolin also survives.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in Oakgrove Baptist Church Cemetery near Darlinton, Florida with Pastor Wilbur Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Nolin Family Plot in Oakgrove Baptist Church Cemetery.
