Ms. Shirley Jean Hogans McRae, age 70 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center. She was born March 18, 1938 in Ponce deLeon, Florida the daughter of Roy Mathis Hogans, Sr. and Mary Catherine Barker Hogans. Ms. McRae was a very frank spoken woman who said what she meant and meant what she said. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always minded her own business and appreicated everyone else doing the same. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She is predeceased by her daugther, Bobbi Jean Jackson McLendon and by her son Kenneth Jackson.
Among survivors are her son Rex Jackson, Sr. and wife Carolyn of Detroit, Michigan. Six grandchildren, Rex Jr./ Suzanne, Sharee’ Jackson, Kim/Don Starks, Katrina/Michael Parker, Frank/Celeste Johnson and Jason Rutherford. Fourteen great grandchildren, Quinton Jackson, Desmond Hunter, Kvon Jackson, Kyrese Jackson, Geno Johnson, Paige Johnson, Ashley Andrews, Zakiya Parker, Madison Parker, Makayla Starks, Khylon Starks, Kennedy Starks, Jaelyn Rutherford and Jaslyn Rutherford. Her sisters, Marion Phillips and husband Johnny O. of Pensacola. Mary Hogans Williams and Eunice Vann both of DeFuniak Springs. Elizabeth Brown and husband Ralph of Vernon. Her brothers Albert Duncan Hogans and wife Ida Mae of Vernon,Reverend Roosevelt Hogans of Ponce deLeon,and Randall Hogans, Sr. and wife Voncill of Columbus, Geogria.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from 5 until 7 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Noon in Jerry Evans Chapel. Burial will follow in Euchee Valley Cemetery.
