Selman Lee "Brother" Ellisor

Mr. Selman “Brother” Ellisor passed away Monday, November 2, 2014 in a Birmingham Alabama Healthcare facility. He was born August 8, 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama the son of Benjamin Selman Ellisor, Sr. and Mary Lee Garrett Ellisor. Selman grew up in DeFuniak Springs, and graduated from Walton High School with the Class of 1962. He then attended Troy State University, graduating with a Bachelors in Science in 1969. He joined the Florida Army National Guard where he served a tour of duty for six years. Most will remember Brother in his career as “the science teacher” at Walton Middle School, a position he held for some thirty-three years. He loved to fish and nap. Most important in Brother’s life were his family and his relationship with Jesus Christ, where he shared his faith in dual membership, at his home church of First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs and also First United Methodist Church of Niceville. He was employed at First United Methodist in Niceville as Recreation Associate for some nine and a half years until ill health prevailed.

Among survivors are his wife Pam. His children, Leia Ellisor Glass and husband Kevin, Amie Ellisor Howard, Billy Mayville and wife Kimberly and Scott Mayville and wife Ashley. His honorary daughter, LaDawn Marse. His sister, Merriben Shelton and husband Steve; The mother of his daughters, Julia Woods and husband Russell. His brothers and sisters-in-law; Carol (Tommy), David (Fran), Glenn III (Kathy), Pat (Bob), Mike, Mark (Courtney), Cathy, Lisa, Robin, Ann (Andy) and Carol (J.D,). His grandchildren, Miranda Boles, Kolby (Chelsey) Hoke, Rylee Hoke, Zack Glass, Emily Mayville, BreeAnne Mayville and Kaylee Mayville. Three great grandchildren, Kaylin Boles, Kendyl Boles and Carson Hoke also survive.


Memorials may be made in Selman Ellisor’s memory to Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network,4915 St. Elmo Avenue, St 202, Bethesda, Md 20814. There will be two services , first on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in First United Methodist Church of Niceville with Dr. Herstel Carter officiating and again on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in First United Mehthodist Church of DeFuniak Springs with Reverend Bobby Ellisor officiating.
