Mrs. Sandra Cecil of DeFuniak Springs passed away at her residence Saturday, April 8, 2017 just one day after her seventy-fifth birthday. She was born April 7, 1942 in Winnfield, Louisiana the daughter of Percy and Frances Paralee Foreman Hildebrand. Sandra and her husband John moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1976, near the end of John's 21 year service in the Air Force, and brought an end to their extensive travel for the entire family. Besides being a wife and mother Sandra experienced many aspects of DeFuniak culture. Her first job after moving was as a reporter for WZEP. She also worked for First Federal at locations in DeFuniak and Paxton. Later she traveled county wide selling life insurance. As her daughters got older she became a regular fixture at school board meetings, to the dispair of many of the school board members. When she retired she immersed herself in a life long passion of sewing and quilting. Her first quilt winning the blue ribbon at the Walton County Fair. As the years went by her skill and productivity flourished. Much of her work being influenced by the years they were stationed in Japan. Sandra's kids, grand kids and nieces and foster grand kids have all been the recipient of the most exquisite, hand pieced and hand quilted works of art that she will always be remembered for.
Among survivors are her daughters, Belinda McMillian and husband Bill and Melissa Cecil and Richard. Her grandchildren, Christopher Logan Cecil Fails and wife Christine and Michael Tyler Cecil Fails and wife Lynsey. Her great grandchildren, Alexia, Abigal, Addison, Nevaeh and Kailubb and her sister, Grace McCoy also survive.
