Robert L. Messer

Mr. Robert L. Messer, age 88, long time resident of DeFuniak Springs passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in North Okaloosa Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1928 in Florala, Alabama the son of John Harm Messer and Lular Loveda Edwards Messer. Robert was a member of Community Holiness Church of DeFuniak Springs. He is predeceased by his wife Edna McCormick Messer who passed away December 27, 2005 and his three sons, Leon, Don and Len. Strong in his faith in God and with the blessed assurance that he will see his family again, a yellow rose is in Robert’s hand Thursday night and Friday morning and it will be buried with him so as he approaches the gates of Heaven and sees his wife he can present her with it as a token of his love for her.

Among survivors are his daughters, Sue Withey and husband Bryan and Letha Miles and husband Rabbit. A special daughter-in-law, Loretta Holland and husband Rex and Phyliss Messer. Grandchildren, Teasa Albee and husband Denny, Brandon Messer, Jonathon Messer, Michael Messer and wife Laura, Mickey Messer and wife Andrea, Robby Messer and wife Elizabeth, Stoney Messer and wife Stephanie, Nikki Rutherford and husband J.D., Sheldon Miller and wife Rhonda, Carry Truett and husband Shelby, Kendall Withey, Tabitha Carter and husband Joey. Twenty three great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and a special nephew, Larry Bray and wife Gracie also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Thursday evening, January 26, 2017 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in Community Holiness Church with Reverend Lonnie Forehand and Reverend Ikey Bird officiating. Burial will follow in the Messer family plot in Magnolia Cemetery
