Biography

Mr. Richard Allen “Dick” Jones, age 69 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1940 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Roy Frances Jones and Ella Niewald Jones. Dick and his family moved to DeFuniak Springs from Elba, Alabama in 1980 when he became manager of the newly opened TG&Y Store in DeFuniak Square Shopping Center, a position he held until the corportion sold the store. He then was manager of Gulf Plaza on I-10 for some fifteen years until he became employed with ColorTyme in DeFuniak Square. Most recently Dick was employed with Hodges Cash N’ Carry until his retirement. Dick had a busy life, filled with fishing and bird watching in his spare time and in the evenings and rainey days enjoyed “judge shows” on tv, like Judge Judy and The People’s Court. He also was a fan of JAG and 24 and most recently Seventh Heaven, but most of all Dick enjoyed his friends and family. He always had a happy smile and an interesting tidbit of news or a funny story for the many many friends he made over the years. Obiviously he was a “people person” a genuine skill he used in the many management positions he held during his working career. Dick, only a few days ago lost his step mother, Gladys P. Jones who passed away July 29th. He and his wife Helen had devoted the last few years to caring for Gladys, a woman he saw as a mother, rather than a step mother.

Among survivors are his wife Helen Jones of DeFuniak Springs. His daughter, Penny Jones of DeFuniak Springs. His brother, Jim Jones and wife Gerri of Crystal River and his sister, Cathy Johnson of Missouri. His grandsons, Chase Toole and wife Samatha stationed with the U. S. Armed Forces at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Robby Bowers of DeFuniak Springs. His grand daughters, Kelsey Bowers of DeFuniak Springs and Britany Bowers of Panama City. Also surviving is his special great grand daughter, Destiny Lexus Toole.
