PATRICIA GATLIN MAXWELL

Patricia Gatlin Maxwell, a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, friend, teacher, counselor, mentor, loved by so many passed peacefully on August 22, 2019 surrounded by family in Norcross, Georgia where she was living in assisted living. Her delightful and bubbly personality will be remembered by those who knew her as a native of DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida and a 1950 graduate of Walton High School. She was the daughter of Obie Sion Gatlin and Willie Newman Gatlin, and had 3 siblings, Obie Gatlin, Jr., Jack Gatlin and Wanda Gatlin. She was a graduate of Florida State University, followed by graduate work at the Theological Seminary in Richmond VA. She then went to work at the University of Florida’s Presbyterian Student Center where she met and worked with her future sister in law who introduced her to one of her brothers Reverend David B. Maxwell, whom she was married to until his death in 2000. The Maxwells lived together in several communities making an impact and raising their daughters, Cynthia Maxwell Karegeannes and Kimberly Maxwell. They made their mark on many lives in Cresskill, NJ, Montreat, NC, and Santa Rosa Beach, FL.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Ken Karegeannes and Carl Post and grandchildren, Grayson Karegeannes, Andrew Karegeannes, Leigh Karegeannes, and Maxwell Post and her beloved dog Cari, whom she adopted from Angels Among Us.

A celebration of her memory will take place November 29, 2019 at 1:00 P.M.  in St. Agatha  Episcopal Church, 144 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435  with a reception following in Congregation Hall.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, or the Alzheimers Association https://act.alz.org
