Mr. Michael Foster Denyes, age 83, passed away at the family residence in DeFuniak Springs Saturday, October 31, 2020. He was born November 7, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Gerald Foster Denyes and Alice Collamore Denyes, Mike, who had been in high school in Canada, moved to Delray Beach during his senior year, attended and graduated from Seacrest High School. He caught the eye of a young sophomore named Kay, and they became high school sweethearts. After graduation, Mike joined the United States Army, and was a member of The Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division. While still in the military, and upon Kay’s graduation from Seacrest, they were married in 1958. Mike attended Palm Beach Jr. College. He then transferred to the University of Florida, and an avid Gator’s Fan came to life. He was a Florida state certified general contractor who owned and operated Kayden Construction Company. Upon retirement, he and Kay lived in Franklin, North Carolina for a dozen or so years. Mike and Kay decided to move to DeFuniak Springs to be closer to family making their home on Holley King Lake. He was a member of Saint Agatha’s Episcopal Church.
Among survivors are his wife, Kay Shepherd Denyes, their children Michelle, Gerald “Jerry” and Michael, three grandchildren, Chelsea Kay, Alexander and Andrew and several great grandchildren including Riley Seeliger. His brother-in-law George Shepherd and wife Pat also survive.
Memorials may be made in memory of Michael Denyes to Saint Agatha’s Episcopal Church, 150 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Services will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with the Reverend Deborah Kempson-Thompson officiating.
