DeFuniak Springs

On the morning of October 8, 2024, Mary Lydia Bingham, age 91, went to be with the Lord. Born January 12, 1933, in Pensacola, Florida, Mary Lydia was the daughter of Walter Webb Jackson, Sr and Mary Elizabeth Wentworth Jackson, proprietors of the Jackson Motel on Highway 90 which is now Liberty Fire Station. Mary Lydia was raised in DeFuniak Springs, Florida and graduated from Walton High before she met the love of her life, James Walker Bingham. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage before James passed away in 2009. Mary Lydia was a member of First Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. 

James and Mary Lydia moved to Washington State in 1958, where they lived for 48 years. Together they had a general contractor business that included building 7 churches, 3 apartment buildings, and over 50 homes. They moved to Eastern Washington, Royal City, in 1984 where they had a small farm on which they had a beautiful home and apple orchard. Mary Lydia lived a very full and rich life in Washington before moving back to DeFuniak Springs in 2006. After returning to Walton County, Mary Lydia enjoyed the years she invested working at the Senior Center in DeFuniak Springs and her time working at her daughter’s company, Mary Bingham Designs, LLC. 

Among survivors are her children Mary Carol Joule and James Robert Bingham and her grandchildren Gerald, Justin, Scott, Larry, Angela, Tiffany and LeAnn. She also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren, sister Gloria Anderson Hollingsworth, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, James Walker, a daughter, Beverly, who died November 21, 2003, a brother, Walter Webb Jackson, Jr., and a sister, Martha Elizabeth Moseley.

Reverend Francis Turner will be officiating the memorial service.
