Martha “Pat” Allen Thompson, age 81, of Eustis, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008, after a courageous battle against cancer. Pat was born January 15, 1927, in Birmingham, AL. She attended Auburn University where she met her husband Russell Wayne Thompson of DeFuniak Springs, FL. Following his death in 1963, Pat returned to college and began a career as an educator. She moved to Eustis in 1968, where she taught math at Eustis High School. In 1976 she began a successful career in real estate with Beard-Coffman Realty. Pat was the devoted mother of Wayne (Edith) Thompson of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Richard (Celia) Thompson of Eustis, FL; and Terry (Robert) Porter of Eustis, FL. She was loved by six grandchildren: Celeste Thompson Barefield of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Milla Thompson Chappell of Pittsburgh, PA; Krisan Thompson Anderson of Auburn, AL; Alicia Porter Clayton of Oxford, MS; Michael Porter of Eustis, FL; and John Porter of Eustis, FL; her great-grandson: Grant Barefield of DeFuniak Springs, FL; and her niece Karen Allen Northcutt of Montgomery, AL. Pat was a remarkable woman with great strength in life and sweet compassion for everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed by hearts all over this country, as evidenced through the outpouring of love during her illness. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church, 88 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, with Reverend Rob West officiating. In leiu of flowers memorials may be made in Pat's memory to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.
