Mrs. Marie Byrd Manning, age 75, widow of the late Holland Manning passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in Chautauqua Health and Nursing Center. She was born January 7, 1939 in Andalusia, Alabama the daughter of Joseph L. “Pop” Byrd, Sr. and Leila Ruth Smithart Byrd. Marie graduated from Covington County High School and many will remember her in her employment with Franklin Ferguson Company. Marie is predeceased by her parents and her husband.
Among survivors are her son, John H. “Chopper” Manning, Jr. and wife Lori. Her daughter, Donna White. Her brothers, Jody Byrd and wife Ellen, Hubbard Byrd and wife Martha and Reverend Lonnie B. Byrd and wife Beverly. Her sister, Ophelia Fuqua and husband James and six grandchildren, Danielle, Kimberly and husband Matt, John Holland Manning, III, Samantha Manning, Joseph White and Michael White. Five great grandchildren also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Marie Manning’s memory to one’s favorite charity. A time of visitation will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 10 until 11 A.M. in Lockhart Baptist Church, 1479 Mohegan Street, Lockhart, Alabama with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the church with Reverends Lonnie B. Byrd and John Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Byrd/Manning Family Plot in Greenwood Cemetery.
