Mrs. Madeline Bishop Douglass, long time DeFuniak Springs resident died on her 88th Birthday in Healthmark Regional Medical Center Wednesday, June 19, 2013. She was born June 19, 1925 in Argyle, Florida the daughter of Carlton and Beulah Day Bishop. Many will remember Madeline in her early employment with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department where she served as "metermaid". Later during the time of Delmar Rushing and Ray Burgess she moved into the "office" and continued to work with DeFuniak Springs Police Department until her retirment. Madeline was very active with ARC and also in Walton County Special Olympics and often times drove local participants to the competitions. She is predeceased by her husband Charles Alcus Douglass, and her sisters, Floysteen, Lorene and Katheline. Madeline's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU Department of Healthmark Regional Medical Center for the expert and loving care and attention given their mother.
Among survivors are her children, Greg Douglass and wife Libby. Chuck Douglass and wife Pat . Patricia Douglass and Kathy Douglass. Her grandchildren, Ryan and wife Karen, Carl, Lydia and Rebekah and her great grandchildren Cooper and Carter and her brother Donald “Frog” Bishop and wife Bea also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Madeline Douglass's memory to ARC, 1408 State Highway 83, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433.
A time of visitation will be Saturday, June 22, 2013 from noon until 1P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00P.M. in the funeral home with a eulogy by Art Dees and with Pastor James Burnham officiating. Burial will follow in the Douglass Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
