Mable Hall

April 23, 1920 — January 12, 2010

Mrs. Mable Louise Harrison Hall, age 89 of the Liberty Community of North Walton County passed away at the home of her daughter Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010, surrounded by her loving and caring family. She was born April 23, 1920, one of nine children of John Henry and Pearl Brown Harrison. No stranger to hard work, Mable worked side by side with her late husband Cecil and together they built a successful farming operation and dairy farm that became a family partnership when their three children joined them in the day to day operation of the business. Mable assumed the position of bookkeeper for the family farm and through honesty and perseverance and the aged old ethics of The Golden Rule combined with many hours of hard work the family business prospered. In addition to her duties on the farm and in the business she maintained a loving household where she put her skills as a great “country” cook into practice on a daily basis making sure everyone was fed, from family to farm hands, even to wayfaring strangers; no one left hungry. Mable loved the outdoors and all that God, through nature, provided. She was an avid deer and turkey hunter and a good shot; she killed her last deer, an eight point and three turkeys when she was 81. She loved to pond fish for bass, bream, catfish and anything that would bite. Within this rugged outdoorswoman, a hunter, fisherwoman and occasional tractor driver (if need be) was a true Southern lady who possessed all of the attributes of what made The Old South great. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, peacemaker, neighbor, friend; all of these fit easily in a description of a truly genteel lady whose greatest love was for God and for her family. Always giving, never taking, her family was her life. After the death of her husband Mable spent her last years enjoying God’s Earth and all of the beauty it posses; she enjoyed birds and bird watching, always marveling at their total dependency on God which they accept freely and unconditionally. She saw the beauty of the Creator through planting and growing flowers throughout the year and she felt the awesome variety of His love even through animals, especially her two black cats, James and Jesse. What began some 89 years ago ended with a well lived life at 10:02 Tuesday morning and Mable Hall’s passing leaves no doubt that she is once again, side by side with her husband Cecil, tending God’s Garden and waiting for the day their family will be reunited in eternity.

Among survivors are her children, Sara Nell Pearson and husband Milton, James Cecil Hall and wife Ann, Shirley Ward and husband Bruce. Her brother, Randal Harrison,, grandchildren Tonya Davis and husband Pete, Sonya Alford and husband Alex, Cindy Neale and husband Rob, Candy Bodie and husband Ben, Jamie Hall and wife Heather, Jason Ward and wife Joanne, Michael Ward, Jon Ryan Ward and wife Misty and Joanna Ward. Fifteen great grandchildren also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be from 6 until 8 P.M.,, Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, January 15, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in Cluster Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Joel Glenn and Reverend William Tucker Aplin officiating. Burial will follow in Cluster Springs Cemetery.
