Biography

A lifelong native of Walton County, Lucile Flow Wise was born December 4, 1918 to Charles McDonald Flow and Alice Corbett Flow. She passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was a 1936 graduate of Walton High School and a 1940 graduate of Florida State College for Women where she majored in Home Economics. In October 1940, she married James Ronald Wise after which time she taught school at Paxton High School and Walton High School. She was also instrumental in helping her husband launch a retail clothing store, Wise Department Store, a landmark in DeFuniak Springs and Walton County. After retiring from teaching, she became a fulltime business partner in the clothing business, one that spanned a period of forty years. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in DeFuniak Springs, a life member of the Pilot Club, and primary caregiver to her late husband. Her hobbies included china painting, fishing with her husband, gardening and FSU football. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Ronald Wise; brothers, Leslie M. Flow, Lloyd W. Flow, Howard C. Flow and sisters Eleanor Flow Carlan and Lola Flow Prescott.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Wise Richardson and husband James of Longwood, Florida. Her grandson, James Scott Richardson and wife Becky of Nashville, Tennessee and her great-grandson, Austin James Richardson . Her sisters-in-law Sarah Flow, Betty Gunnels and husband Dr. Wheeler A. Gunnels and Addie Laurie Wise. Her brother-in-law John P. Wise and wife Edna and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. For the past five and a half years her independent living was made possible by her loyal and devoted caregivers, Sharon Starner, Janice Geraci, Carol Johnson and Bonnie Yerdon.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Thursday, June 16 2011 from 6 until 8 P.M. in First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in First United Methodist Church with Reverend Rob West officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
