Loyce Brown Phillips age 81 a lifelong resident of Gaskin passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Wiregrass Hospital in Geneva, Alabama. She was born May 11, 1932 in Gaskin, Florida the daughter of Mack and Ella Victoria Wilkerson Brown. After graduation from high school she worked for Monsanto in Pensacola for about five years. She and her husband Emmett were married July 12, 1958, a marriage that would span some fifty five years. She later went to work for Franklin Ferguson Company in Florala, Alabama for some fifteen years until her retirement. Loyce loved to draw and paint and as a student of Mary Vinson, has art work, her favorite being of floral nature. She was an excellent cook and is known throughout the community for her Southern Fried Chicken and her seven thin layer chocolate cakes which she made sure were at all church gatherings and funerals in the community . In her spare time she loved the Andy Griffith show and Heat of the Night. She is predeceased by her brothers, Clary, Ed, Pat, Leroy and Bert. Loyce was a member of Gaskin Church of Christ.
Among survivors are her husband Emmett B. Phillips. Her son, Dennis Kent Phillips. Numerous nieces and nephews and her dog “Baby” also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Thusday, November 14, 2013 from 5 until 7 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Graveside services will be held Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 A. M. in Gaskin Cemetery.
