It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn Roman (Nonny), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on October 31st, 2024.
Nonny was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, with whom she shared a loving marriage for nearly half a century. They tackled life together- battling the ups and downs of a lifetime with true love, happiness, and togetherness. Though Gary tragically passed away 12 years ago, Kathy often spoke of him with a deep sense of love and admiration, finding comfort in their time together and the family they created.
Kathy is survived by her two children, Sharon Summers and Suezan Schaff; her son in law, David Summers, whom she loved like a son; and her five grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Leo, Logan and Luna. She also is survived by her siblings Carol and Frank. In her lifetime, Kathy did everything she could to bring the whimsical to life. From finding troll teeth in the garden to providing magic stuffed bunnies to her grandkids, she taught her grandchildren to believe in the lighter side of life and left a lasting impression of love in each of her grandkids' lives. Not a day passed that she didn't speak of all five grandkids and she was ecstatic to be a part of their lives.
She often spoke of her two daughters with love and adoration. Her favorite stories to tell and retell included those of Sharon and Sue as toddlers on the farm. She often recounted how the two would giggle and laugh as Gary threw them on his back. More often than not you could catch her reminiscing on her evening walks with the family to Granny's house, Sue's curls bouncing, and Sharon being terrified of the dark. She would retell the accounts of walking through the snow and Sue refusing to walk on- demanding to be carried. And of Sharon's stubbornness when she refused to wear anything but her favorite skirt for weeks on end. Her stories told everyone listening that she absolutely loved and adored her daughters - even when describing how the two girls would argue over who got the TV remote.
Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but her love and care will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Though saddened by her passing, we are comforted by the thought that Kathy is now reunited with her beloved husband Gary, and together, they will continue to watch over those they have held so dear.
A private family service will be held in late November to celebrate Kathy’s life.
