Kathleen Crawford, 97, died on April 6, 2015, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. She was born in Ponce de Leon, Florida, on November 14, 1917.
A graduate of Florida State University, she was a classroom teacher in Holmes, Bay, and Walton Counties before serving as the Walton High Media Specialist until her retirement in 1992. Kathleen was an active member of the First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs. Her community activities included the Pilot Club and the Walton County Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time at her Seagrove Beach house.
Kathleen Crawford was preceded in death by her parents, D.E. and Aubrey Neel Thomason and her husband, Edward Vernon Crawford, Jr.
She is survived by four children: Kay Crawford of DeFuniak Springs; Mike (Mary) Crawford of Knoxville, Tennessee; Sue (David) Colombo of Tallahassee, Florida; and Lou (Al) Cleveland of Chipley, Florida; four grandchildren, Colby Cleveland of Chipley, Florida; Katherine Colombo Cline and Paul (Katie) Colombo of Tallahassee, Florida; and Emily (Ryan) Phillips of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; and four great grandchildren, Andrew and David Colombo, Julia Kathleen Cline, and Jackson Crawford Phillips. She is also survived by sister Barbara Laird Oliver, sister-in-law Mrs. Glen Thomason, close family friend Cheryl Mixson, and a host of nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend gratitude to caregivers Martha Wilbanks, Merilee Smith, Martha Blough, and Donna Hendrix.
In leiu of flowers memorials may be made in Kathleen Crawford's memory to Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 1125 Line Road, Ponce deLeon, Florida 32455 or to First Baptist Church, 216 East Live Oak Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. A time of visitation will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 from Noon until 1 P.M. in First Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery.
