Joyce Workman, age 79 passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 17, 1936 in Freeburn, Kentucky, the daughter of Merdith Layne and Bessie Griffery Layne. The youngest of eleven children, Joyce was the last of her siblings to pass away. Many will remember her in her employment locally at Revco and Eckerds Drugs and Service Drug Store. Most of her life she was a homemaker caring for her children and grandchildren. She had a love and a talent for floral arranging which she greatly enjoyed. Joyce was a deeply spiritual person and the way she lived her life, her gentle spirit and quiet unassuming nature was evidence of that. She is predeceased by her husband, James E. Workman, Sr. who passed away in 1997.
Among survivors are her children, James, Jolana and husband Joseph and Shawn.
Her grandchildren, James Thomas Williamson, Joseph Varney and Shawn Workman. Three great grandchildren, Rory Williamson, Asia Randolph and Joe B. Varney also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Shawn Workman, James Workman, James Thomas Williamson, Shawn E. Workman, Joseph B. Varney and Joseph C. Varney. A time of visitation will be Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 2 until 3 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with the funeral beginning at 3P.M. in the chapel with Reverend Willie Oldfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Workman Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
