Mrs. Jossie Nowling Miller, age 93 of DeFuniak Springs passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, March 7, 2015 at the family residence. She was born November
14, 1922 in Samson, Alabama the daughter of Melvin Thomas Nowling and Sara Elizabeth Allridge Nowling. Many will remember “Miss Jossie” in her employment as a cook in some
of DeFuniak Springs popular family restaurants including, but not limited to, Pearl’s Steak
House, Walton Café and most recently Mamies. Her family was of most importance to
Jossie and she spent her life making a home for her husband and children, one of which was Harry, of Tastee Freeze Fame. In her later years, Mrs. Miller enjoyed cooking for her family who always enjoyed her famous “cat head” biscuits, banana pudding and bread pudding, all made, needless to say, from scratch. She was a game show fan, her two favorite being Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Mrs. Miller was part of the fellowship of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She is preceeded in death by her husband, James Miller, Sr., her sons, Harry Miller and Don Frank Miller and also predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters.
Among survivors are her son Pete Miller and Kimberly and her daughter, Barbara Ann Miller.
Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
A time of visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 9 until 10 A.M. in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the funeral beginning at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Ponce deLeon.
