Mr. Joe McCall, age 82 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Friday evening, July 16, 2021 in Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born January 11, 1939 in DeFuniak Springs, the son of Burton McCall, Sr. and Grace Murray McCall. After finishing school in Walton County in the mid fifties, Joe served his country in the United States Army with a tour of duty in the Panama Canal. After returning home he joined the family business, McCall’s Dairy, a Walton County landmark. By the sixties, most of the independent dairys had been purchased by Borden Milk Company and for a time Joe worked under contract for Borden Dairys. He then worked with Hodges Cash and Carry and for a time with the Block Company but eventually became qualified as a correctional officer and was assigned to Walton County Correctional Institute, a position he held some thirty years until his retirement. Joe was an avid fisherman and loved black and white western movies. He was part of the fellowship at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Joe is predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Burt McCall, Jr. James Robert McCall, Richard Thomas McCall and Bette McCall Smith.
Among survivors are his wife, Earlene Martin McCall. His sons Joseph Paul McCall and wife Nevelon, Frankie Lynn Miller and Joe;s daughter Amanda Grace Yates Claudia. Eight grandchildren, Joey, Chris, Brittany, Ashton, Austin, Dakota, Brianna and Kayleigh; his sister Nancy McCall Caswell, His sisters-in-law, Kathy Callahan and husband Donnie, Fay Martin, Gretchen McCall, Susan McCall and Polly McCall; his brothers-in-law William Truett and wife Janice, Arthur Truett and wife Evelyn and Jeff Truett and wife Leslie also survive.
A time of visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 2 until 3 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with the funeral beginning at 3 P.M. with Reverend David Wilson and Reverend Ike Bird officiating.
