Mr. John H. Cecil, age 74 passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 in a Niceville Healthcare Facility. He was born February 12, 1939 in Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of John Oscar Cecil, Jr. and Athelene Rebecca Hagan Cecil. After graduation from Glasgow, Kentucky High School in 1957 he attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He and his wife Sandra Hildebrand were married May 2, 1959. John joined the United States Air Force where he served some twenty years as a computer technician, some of that time in Japan as support tech during the Viet Nam Crisis. Retiring from the Air Force in 1980 and having moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1976, John was then employed in the same capacity at Site C-6 where he worked some twenty four years in civil service, finally retiring the second and final time in January 2011. He was an avid reader, his favorite author being Louis L’Amour and John maintained a library of his works. He loved automobiles and Nascar and was a life member of NRA and was active in its’ local functions. Needless to say John Cecil was a rabidly conservative Republican. After his brief retirement his health began failing and his wife Sandra and their children saw to his needs until the final weeks when Regency Hospice stepped in to assist the family. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Regency Hospice and to the staff of Superior Residences of Niceville.
Among survivors are his wife of over 54 years, Sandra Cecil. His daughters, Belinda McMillian and Bill and Melissa Cecil and Richard. His grandchildren, Logan Fails and Christine and Tyler Fails and Lynsey. His great grandchildren, Alexia and Abigail. His sister, Cheryl Cecil; sister-in-law Gracie McCoy and a favorite aunt, Norma Cecil.
