Mrs. Jeannette Garrett Lindsey, age 95, a lifelong resident of DeFuniak Springs passed away Friday evening in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born July 18, 1921 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of William Adolphus and Mary Frances Lewis Garrett. She attended Walton County Schools and graduated with Walton’s Senior Class of 1939. She was a member of the first marching band of Walton High School where she played the coronet. Many will remember Jeannette in her association with the medical practices of Dr. Huggins and later Dr. Rhoems where she worked as bookkeeper. Later she worked with Campbell Cash and Carry as bookkeeper. Jeannette loved sports, especially golf and was, herself an avid golfer. She was a Gator Fan and she and her husband spent many hours fishing the rivers in the area. An excellent cook, she prided herself on creating wedding and birthday cakes on a professional level. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hewett Lindsey, a son, John Lindsey, her brothers, W. A. Garrett, Jr. and Bobby Garrett, her sisters, Mary Lee Ellisor, Virginia Moody and Avie Stewart.
Among survivors are her sons, Bill Lindsey and Bob Lindsey and wife Janie. Four grandchildren, Robby Lindsey and wife Ioana, Jack Lindsey and wife Misty, Bridgette Rayfield and husband Chad and Christopher Lindsey and wife Barbara. Eight great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law Brenda Lindsey and her sister-in-law Joy Garrett also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Jeanette Lindsey’s memory to favorite charities. A time of visitation will be Monday, August 22, 2016 from 10 until 11 A.M. with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lindsey Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
