Mrs. Janice Jones Pentz, age 81 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Wednesday morning, May 19, 2021 at the family residence. She was born November 5, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky the daughter of Henry Havelock Jones, Jr. and Virginia Marie Hubbard Jones. She graduated high school at Miami Edison with the Class of 1956. She lived for a time with her grandfather at his summer home in Chicago. She learned to paint houses when he had a house for sale that needed painting before it went on the market. She did such a good job as a young girl, that for the rest of her life she painted all of the houses she lived in. Before her marriage, she went to a birthday party given for a Navy guy named John. As a guest at the party she was introduced to him and they later married. Janice was a long time faithful member of Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church of DeFuniak Springs.
Among survivors are her eight children; notice the “J’s”. John, Jennifer, Jesse, Jeannette, Janice, Jeffrey, Julie and Jolene. John Joseph Pentz, III and Dale, Jennifer June Bass and Kent, Jesse James Pentz and Frances, Jeannette Jean Huggett and Steve, Janice Jane Davidson and Donel, Jeffrey Jerome Pentz, Julie Joan Elio and Gregory and Jolene Joy Clenney and John. Her sisters, Jacqueline Strickland, Sue Artiga and James and Marie Burkett and Ricky. Her brother, Henry Jones and Rose, twenty one grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren also survive.
Those asked to serve as pallbearers are John Joseph Pentz, IV, Weldon Senterfitt, Cale Senterfittt, Jared Sconiers, Steven Huggett, II, John Quitman Clenney, Jr., Jonathan Quinn Clenney, Anthony Elio and Vincent Elio. A time of visitation will be from 10 until 11A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 247 U.S. 331 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 with Reverend Rick Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Southwide Church Cemetery, 1307 Coy Burgess Loop, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
