Mrs. Janet Bullard Campbell age 85, passed away Monday evening in Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She was born November 6, 1928 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of Albert Fletcher Bullard, Sr. and Mary Virginia Cumming Bullard. Janet had that rare quality of being a sweet and understanding person while at the same time being someone who could take a strong stand which everyone respected. She was a teacher, guidance counselor, and later school principal who made a mark on many young people, teaching them her strong and admirable value system. Prior to her retirement, she was the director of K-12 curriculum for the Walton County School District. Janet was a mentor to those she supervised both at the school level and the district level. After retiring she continued her contributions to education with her involvement in the Walton County Retired Educators Association. She was active in civic affairs, both at local and state levels, including serving as a trustee for Okaloosa Walton Community College (now Northwest Florida State College). She was also a devoted and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of DeFuniak Springs, serving as an elder and choir member for many years. Janet lived life fully. She loved her family and friends and was always kind, encouraging, and saw the best in everyone. She met life’s challenges with courage and determination, and had a mischievous sense of humor. Janet was a special person who touched all who knew her and enriched our lives. Words cannot express how loved and lovable she was. Her physical presence will be sorely missed. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Jette Campbell, her brother Albert Fletcher Bullard, Jr. and her sister Catherine Bullard Cooper.
Among survivors are her children, John Jette Campbell and wife Linda of Charlotte, NC; Ralph Campbell and wife Georgia of Santa Rosa Beach; Sandra Balkom and husband Mike of Montgomery, AL and Connie Campbell and partner Renee of Jackson, MS; her brother, John Carson Bullard, Sr. of Montgomery, AL and her sister Virginia Bullard Oswald and husband Doug of Ocala, FL. Nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorials may be made in Janet Campbell’s memory to First Presbyterian Church, 1063 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435 or to Walton County Retired Educators Scholarship Fund, 236 Rose Lane, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 or to one’s favorite charity. A time of visitation will be Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 1 until 2 P.M. in First Presbyterian Church, Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs with the funeral beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Michael Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the A.F. Bullard Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
