Mr. James "Cooter" Carlton Rushing, age 75, went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He was born to Casey and Mattie Rushing at home in Euchenna Valley, Florida on September 16, 1946. Many knew James from his work as an EMT, as a long time manager of Hodges Cash and Carry and working at Cosson Truss. James served as the youngest county commissioner here in Walton County. He loved Walton County, was a man of integrity and was generous with his knowledge, time and tools. James and Charlene were known for their skills and generosity in the construction and cabinetry business they built together. He retired from the Florida National Guard after 21 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Milbra and Cleve Earl and his precious daughter that he adored, Dede.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Charlene, his children, Keith, Nita and Scott, his siblings Thomas and Marcia, Gary and Jeannie, Myrtle and Herbert and Betty Merle, his grandchildren, Christine, Bugg, Sophie, Abigail, Evie and Korbin and his great grandson Tyler.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in remembrance and celebration of his life in Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve where James was laid to rest beside his daughter.
