Jack Earl Huggins passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023.  Jack was born in Laurel Hill on September 22, 1936, to William Oscar and Madelia Davidson Huggins.  He was a lifelong resident of the area – living in Baker, Pensacola, and DeFuniak Springs.  Jack was part of the 1954 graduating class of Baker High School.

Jack served our country through the Army National Guard where he retired as a Captain after 25 years of service.

Jack contributed greatly to our area through his work and involvement.  He worked at Gulf Power Company, was owner/operator of Huggins Construction Company, and was owner/operator of ERA Great South Realty.  His local civic involvement included being President of DeFuniak Springs Kiwanis Club, serving on the board of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development and the Okaloosa-Walton Workforce Development Board, and being on the NWF Planning Counsel.

Jack was an active member of Grace Church.  He loved the Lord and his family, serving them faithfully all his life.

Jack married Diane Eddy Huggins on September 17, 1981, and spent 42 years loving and enjoying life with her.

Jack is preceded in death by his mother, Madelia Davidson Huggins, his father William Oscar Huggins, sisters Malanie Brown, Hazel Garrison, Maxine Raulerson, and Billie Pierce, and a brother William Oscar Huggins, Jr.

He leaves behind many who will miss him greatly as he is survived by his wife Diane Eddy Huggins, son Jack Huggins, Jr (Cindy), daughter Gay Huggins Wolff (Kurtis), and stepsons Jimmy Burgess (Tasha) and Jason Burgess (Alicia).  He is also survived by grandchildren: Bianca Huggins Kuklick (Clayton), Cameron Huggins Spaulding (Daron), Tristan Wolff, Austin Wolff, Libby Burgess Simmons (Noah), Logan Burgess, Fisher Burgess, Jake Burgess, Drew Burgess, and Emily Ann Burgess, and great-grandchildren Brooklyn Kuklick and Ciara Spaulding.

Jack’s memory will be treasured by his family and his friends for the rest of their lifetimes.
