Retired U. S. Air Force Major Jack B. Harvey, age 83 passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center. He was born July 7, 1931 in Wabash, Indiana, the son of Jay B. and Virginia Delight Lindenmuth Harvey. After attending public schools in Wabash he joined the Air Force, for over twenty one years, serving his country in Korea and View Nam. He married his high school sweetheart December 23, 1949 and their marriage spanned some sixty-five years. To their union two daughters were born. While stationed at Hurlburt, Jack and Amy and the girls would explore Okaloosa and Walton Counties, fell in love with the area and after retirement purchased acreage and made their home here. Jack went to crop dusting school because of his love of aviation and worked as a crop duster for the next twenty-six years. As busy as he was, he found time to write four books that were published; AC-47 Side Firing Gunnery USAF Technical, Crop Duster, Self Righteous, Arrogant and Untouchable and Five Zero Triple Two. . All the while, he built an airplane which he enjoyed flying. In his last active years, Jack raised goats and loved telling his friends and acquaintances that he was a “goat farmer”. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Gayle Martinez, his brother Dick Harvey and his sister-in-law Reba Henderson.
Among survivors are his wife of sixty-five years, Amy Harvey. His daughter, Jillian Wolfe. His grandchildren, Cristine Martinez, Brandon Carroll and wife Krishanna, Shawn Carroll, Francisco Martinez and wife Kandy and Eric Henry. Fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. His sister-in-law Dawn Harvey also survives.
Jack’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered by air over the farm he loved so much. His family is honoring his wishes.
