Mrs. Inez Johnson Bracewell, age 84 passed away Saturday evening, November 30, 2013 in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born August 27, 1929 in Hacoda, Alabama the youngest of eight children born to J. W. “Jim” Johnson and Mattie Lou Alford Johnson. She met and married Clifford Lamar Bracewell on April 7, 1951, a marriage that spanned some fifty-one years. She always said he had the most beautiful hair. Inez loved to fish but she never liked fishing from a boat. On one occasion her son-in-law Hasting talked her into going out in a boat fishing with him and when she finally got off the boat she declared she would never set foot on another boat, that all she saw was gators. Hasting said that was the only time he ever beat her at fishing. Her favorite spot to fish was Mr. Wilson’s cabin on Choctawhatchee River. She and Lamar would fish there quite often while he was in good health. After he went to be with The Lord, her favorite nephew, Jack and his wife Mayo would take her and let her fish to her heart’s content….but not in a boat. She was of the era when soaps on television were popular, and she followed them closely. She loved cooking for her family who loved her home made banana pudding…all from scratch. Inez was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Wilmer, Ben and Johnny; her sisters, Addie, Eva, Juanita and Thelma. Her daughter Kathy Louise preceded her in death also.
Among survivors are her daughters, Ann Shaw and husband Hasting, Frances Fairchild and husband Benny and Linda Roberts and husband Lonnie. Her son, Don Bracewell and wife Lois. Her sisters-in-law, Eloise Weeks, Evelyn Ezell, Lois Duvall, Louise Jinright, Elaine Currington and Shirley Bracewell. Her grandchildren, Kristina Caswell and husband Chris; Melissa Pate and husband Stephen; Darlene Anderson and husband Eric; Kaycee Weldon and husband Chris; Steven Bracewell, Jason Roberts.
