Mr. Howard Moore, age 84 of DeFuniak Springs, passed away at the family residence Tuesday evening. He was born October 15, 1931 in Tennessee, the son of William Walter Moore and Mamie Lawson Moore. Howard, as a child moved to this area with his family, first to Jay then to DeFuniak Springs when his dad took a job with the power company. After attending Walton County Schools, and serving in the Florida National Guard Howard got a job on Eglin Air Force Base as a motorman electrician, a job he held over thirty-six years, retiring as shop foreman. He was an active member of First Baptist Church were he had served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He loved working in his yards and enjoyed the rich heritage of the Florida Gators as an avid fan. He is predeceased by an infant daughter, Donna Faye.
Among survivors are his wife of almost sixty four years, Babe Moore. His sister-in-law Wilma Brown, a brother-in-law Hilton Duron Moss and wife Sylvia. Two nephews, Rick Moss and wife Tammi and Nick Moss and wife Susan, two nieces,Wanda Brown Basha and husband George and Barbara Brown Trimm and husband David. Floyd Skinner and Howard’s companion and friend Bebo also survive.
It was Howard’s request there be no flowers, rather, memorials may be made in Howard Moore’s memory to First Baptist Church Building Fund. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Jerry Chumley officiating. Private family interment will be in New Ponce deLeon Cemetery.
