Hilda Hutchinson, age 81 passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born July 13, 1935 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of William and Eva Brannon Hutchinson. After graduating with Walton’s Class of 1952 she went on to the University of West Florida where she received her Bachelors of Nursing Degree. She then joined the United States Air Force where she obtained the rank of Captain and at which time she met her husband. She left the military when she was expecting . She moved back to DeFuniak Springs in 1973 and began working at the County Hospital. In 1975 she began employment with the State of Florida as a nurse with the Walton County Health Department, a position she would hold for some twenty-six years until her retirement. Her mind and intellect was always active and she enjoyed crocheting and working crossword puzzles. She was a staunch, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Mash. Hilda was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. She is predeceased by her unnamed baby brother, and her sisters, Edith, Elvie and Muriel.
Among survivors are her daughter Dawn Illary and husband Bernardo and her son Robert Andrew DeRycke and wife Lee Ann. Her grandchildren, Danny and wife Maria, Abby and Kory, Rhi-Anne, Marco and Leo. Her great grandchildren, Antonio and Elena. Her sister Joan McDonald and husband Terrance also survive.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in First United Methodist Church, 88 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida with Dr. Larry Teasley officiating. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
