Mrs. Hazel Clark Hopkins, age 83 formerly of DeFuniak Springs passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Douglasville, Georgia. She was born July 4, 1926 in Bremen, Georgia the daughter of Reverend Bruce James Clark and Jenny Maebelle Posey Clark. Mrs. Hopkins worked most of her employment life as an administrative secretary with state government, however, after her husband’s retirment from the Federal Prison System they moved to DeFuniak Springs in late 1980. They had friends who had moved to this area, and after visiting the area, purchased property and built their dream home. Hazel was active at Calvary Baptist Church, singing in the choir as long as her eyesight permitted and was very active in WMU. An avid reader especially of the works of Helen Steiner Rice, Mrs. Hopkins also enjoyed her “stories”, The Guiding Light and As The World Turns. She was noted for her angel food cakes and she and her husband enjoyed putting up jellies, jams and pickels. Hazel and Henry enjoyed their retirment years in DeFuniak Springs and after his death in 1999 she continued to live here until ill health dictated she go to live with her daughter in Douglasville. Hazel was a Christian woman who loved God, her family and friends, and Calvary Baptist Church.
Among survivors are her son Steve Hopkins of Springfield, Missouri. Pam Wilson of Hiram, Georgia and Twila Pfeiffer and husband Roger of Douglasville, Georgia. Her sister, Dorothy Gregornik of Mayesville, Missouri. Two grandchildren, Jason Wilson and Tonya Maloy and four great grandchildren also survive.
Floral arrangments are being accepted. Visitation will be Monday, November 9, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with funeral services following at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel with Pastor Bill Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopkin’s Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
