Mr. George McDonald, age 66 of Ponce deLeon passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center. He was born October, 21, 1944 in Bay Minette, Alabama the son of Jack and Sarah Bryan McDonald. He moved to this area in the mid 1970’s where he was manager of Badcock Furniture. He then opened his donut shop where he made many friends and was also a big supporter of school activities and little league. Later he was in the insurance business getting to know people area wide. George always had a smile, a laugh or some kind of sunshine to spread. In his final six years, after health problems, he began selling peanuts at a roadside stand and made friends from all over the South. He became known to many and loved as the “peanut man”. He continued to support school and school activites and lend a helping hand anywhere he could. He enjoyed being known as “The Peanut Man”. He is predeceased by his mother and father, his father-in-law and his brother-in-law.
Among survivors are his wife Charlotte McDonald. His brothers, Jack McDonald and wife Beth; Charles McDonald and wife Mary. His sister, Betty Ann Badley. His son Chris McDonald and wife Ruth, his daughters, Angela Komorowski and husband Troy, Kimberly Morrison and LisaKay Harper. His grandchildren, Adie, Calee, Max, Daniel, Hampton and Eli. His mother-in-law Mae Chamberlain. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in Red Bay Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. with Reverends Mike McVay and Rodney Infinger officiating. The service for interment will take place inside the church due to predicted inclement weather. Burial will be in Red Bay Cemetery.
