Born December 5, 1937, Gene E. Williams, was called Home by our Lord Jesus Christ on September 15, 2014, to join his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn N Williams, and his late brother and lifetime friend James “Jack” Williams. Gene was born in Florala, Alabama to the late Emanuel and Tressie Williams. In the following years, he built his life with his devoted wife and three children in Pensacola, Florida, but lived out his later years with Carolyn in Walton County, Florida. Throughout his long full life, Gene imparted love, strength and a desire to help, to all of his family and friends. For these qualities and others too many to list, he will be forever remembered and continually missed.
Gene was very active in whatever area of life he chose to involve himself. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he embarked on a career in finance and spent the majority of his career life with Bank of America. Gene was also very active in both the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, volunteering his time whenever he was needed or asked. Very involved in the DeFuniak Springs community, he played a major role in the construction of the Healthmark Regional Medical Center, and then served on its Board of Directors. Later, he became the Spanish Chaplain at the Walton County Jail and also taught Spanish to numerous Walton County Professionals at Northwest Florida State College in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Though profoundly missed by everyone who knew him, particularly those close to him, we celebrate his life. He is survived by his loving children; Cheryl Williams, Paula Wisnowski , and Steve Williams; his brother and lifelong friend Pastor Raymond Williams; his grandchildren, Caitlin Echele and Christine Brice, as well as his great grandchildren, Jonathan Echele, Jr. and expected Grant Echele.
While we deeply mourn Gene's loss, we are blissfully certain that although his journey here is complete, his spirit resides at Home now with our Lord Jesus Christ. It is with great faith and confidence that we firmly believe, as written by St. Paul, that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”.
