Ms. Gail Riddle Nelson, age 62 passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in a Pensacola healthcare facility. She was born November 30, 1947 on Eglin Air Force Base, the daughter of Amos and Mildred Marjorie Brannon Weddington. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Gatchet “Shay” Nelson. Gail worked for a number of years in food service on off shore oil rigs until ill health forced her retirement. Throughout her extended illness and through the suffering and pain she always kept a positive outlook and a cheerful disposition. The family would like to give special thanks to Kermit and Brenda Wright, Dadie Anderson, all Baptist Manor personnel, Robert E. Bondurant, MD, Tonya Hodge, ARNP, Edward L. Friedland, MD, Fernando Kafie and staff, Frensenious Dialysis Center, Sacred Heart ER personnel, Escambia County EMT personnel, Escambia County Community Transportation personnel and Covenant Hospice.
Among survivors are her son Henry Kendrick, her brothers Amos Weddington and Lonnie J. Weddington, her sister Betty LaRegina, her aunts, Mavis Foreman, Carmel Futreal, Doris Gardner and Elva Swift and husband Jerry, her grandchildren Jimmy Austin, Natasha, Sky Marie, Amber Lynn and Austin Tyler.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Rob West officiating. Burial will follow in Alaqua United Methodist Church Cemetery.
