Mrs. Esther Padgett Sunday, age 91, of Glendale passed away January 3, 2011 at the home of her granddaughter in the New Harmony community. Mrs. Sunday was born June 3, 1919 in the Pleasant Grove Community of North Walton County and lived in the Pleasant Grove and Glendale area all of her life. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with running their family’s farm. She also spent many years caring for her own mother while raising her sons and her grandson. Mrs. Sunday was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Sunday, her parents, Alex Ambrose Padgett and Cora McDonald Padgett, her brother, Lloyd Padgett, and her sister, Ruby Anderson.
Among survivors are her sons, Billy Ray Sunday and David Edgar Sunday both of Glendale; five grandchildren, Steve Sunday and wife Joyce of Santa Rosa Beach, Penny Coffey and husband Greg of New Harmony, Sandy Manning and husband Tommy of Gaskin, Tabitha Forehand and husband Luther of Ponce De Leon, and Ms. Hilda Cotton of DeFuniak Springs; 15 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren; . two sisters-in-law, Juanita Laird of Glendale and Myrtice Sunday of Zolfo Springs, Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family also survive .
Floral arrangements will be accepted, or donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or Emerald Coast Hospice in Mrs. Sunday’s memory. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Cluster Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
