Emily Helms Dannelley, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 27, 2010. She was born in Lockhart, Alabama on November 9, 1917, the daughter of Carrie Vida Bowers Helms and James Ross Helms. She moved with her family to DeFuniak Springs after graduating from high school in Dothan Alabama. She then married Walter Dannelley and celebrated their life together for 54 years.
Emily was a beautiful lady with many talents that she shared with all of her friends and family. She was a homemaker before teaching at the Merry Love Andrews Kindergarten for 27 years. Emily was an active and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church. Over the years, she not only played the organ but also sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was very active in her circle. Being very musical, she and her friend Mary Pinkard made two CD’s for organ and piano. One CD was of sacred music and the other for the Christmas season. The Christmas CD is often heard being played each year at Christmas Reflections around the lake. She retired from being the church organist after 50 years. Another love that she enjoyed was playing many card games with her friends, especially Mildred Beasley and the late Lois Hillard. Emily never met a stranger and her smile and words spread sunshine everyday. Some people like angels leave a hint of heaven wherever they go. This is how you would describe Emily’s life.
Her parents, her husband, her sister Jeanne Carolyn Seymour Lanham and her brother James Ross Helms Jr predecease her.
Among survivors are her daughter Virginia Dannelley Moore and husband Jerry Moore, from Panacea, FL and her son Larry Dannelley from Timonium MD.
