Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Ray, age 97 of the Piney Grove Community of North Walton County passed away late Sunday night, August 15, 2021 in Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 12, 1923 in Pensacola, the third daughter of Irvin Harry Holmes and Authetta Fay Buchanan Holmes. She served her country in the United States Navy during World War II as Seaman 1st Class. She married Grady Lee Ray of DeFuniak Springs in 1946. After his death in 1977 she later moved to DeFuniak Springs and worked at First Federal Savings and Loan, and for a time with Central Telephone Company. Many will remember seeing Liz as hostess at McLain’s Family Steak House where her bright smiling face and winning personality always greeted hungry patrons and guest at the door. She was a member of East Baptist Church. She is predeceased by her husband Grady Lee Ray who passed away in September of 1977.
Among survivors are her sons, “Tim” Ray and wife Chris and Larry Ray and partner Bobby. Her grand daughters, Nicole Cuchens and husband Kennie and Dana Gomillion and husband Kale. Her great granddaughtesr Raylee, Raegan, Kalynn and Adalyn also survives.
Memorials may be made in Liz Ray’s memory to Gideon’s International or East Baptist Church. Due to Covid restrictions there will be no immediate services, however a memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. .
