Mr. Eddie Clate Puckett, Jr. passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 in a Conroe, Texas hospital. He was born June 24, 1929 in Fort Gaines, Georgia the son of Eddie Clate Puckett, Sr. and Mattie Monfort Puckett. Ed attended Walton Senior High School as a part of the Class of 1948, but in his Sophomore year transferred to Tennessee Military Institute Academy. He attended Auburn University after which he served his country with the United States Army and later joined his father-in-law in the operation of Creel Ford Company in DeFuniak Springs for some 26 years. Upon returning to DeFuniak Springs he joined the Busy Men’s Bible Class at First United Methodist Church. He Was a member of DeFuniak Springs Jaycees, a member of the Lion’s Club, a member of DeFuniak Lodge # 170 F & AM for fifty years and a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board. After Creel Ford Company was sold, Ed worked for the State of Florida as Bureau Chief for hotels and resaurants. He then transferred to State of Florida Community Affairs later known as Florida Emergency Management where he worked until retirement. Ed Puckett was an extremly intelligent man, with an amazingly quick wit who loved being with people; hardly ever meeting a stranger. He spent his leisure traveling cross country with his wife in their motorhome, where Ed had an opportunity to make even more strangers, friends. Many will remember Ed in his association with Triangle Chevrolet where he and a group of his fellow retired buddies in the community would make transfer of vehicles for Triangle to other towns and states. He is predeceased by his parents and his son John Edward Puckett and his infant so Eddie Clate Puckett, III.

Among survivors are his wife of 58 years Frances Jean Creel Puckett. His daughter Jan Puckett Glenz and husband Donald of Montgomery, Texas. His brother, William Robert Puckett and wife Mary Jane of Kilgore, Texas. His sister Martha Ann Puckett Thompson of DeFuniak Springs. His nieces, Ann Thompson Waller and Michelle Puckett Collier and his nephew, Robert Puckett, Jr.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent, that memorials may be made in Mr. Puckett’s memory to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 9, DeFuniak Springs, Fl 32435 or to one’s favorite charity. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Ken Autrey officiating. Private family interment will be later in the afternoon.
