Biography

Mr. Douglas McLendon age 65 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 in a Pensacola hospital. He was born September 10, 1943 in Glendale, Florida the son of Joseph Lee and Lena Inez Beasley McLendon. Doug was a member of Walton High School’s graduating class of 1961 after which he served his country with the United States Army. He was married to Sarah Lowery in 1969 while both were employees of Vitro. They moved back to Walton County in 1977 when Doug became manager of Snow Haven Farms. He then worked for Showell Farms for some seventeen years as a purchasing agent. He loved to fish but his favorite of all past times was spending time with friends. He loved visiting with friends and family and was recently nominated and received the Good Neighbor Award from Radio Station W-ZEP. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is predeceased by his parents, his only sister, Betty Jo and a grandson Gary.

Among survivors are his wife Sarah Lowery McLendon, his sons, David of DeFuniak Springs; Steven and wife Tonya of Kansas and Thomas and wife Hertha of Canada. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alena , Steven, Matthew, Thomas and Daniel.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Lloyd Dobson, Tom Anderson, Ken Mitchem, Tim Ray, Edsel Ray, Bobby Collinsworth, Adrian Gillis, Danny Beasley and Alex Beasley. A time of visitation will be Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
