Dorothy Mooney, age 94 passed away in her home in Pine Shores Tuesday morning, November 13, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born November 22, 1923 in Walton County, the daughter of John and Nora Bell Sullivan Adams. She was an educator and held a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Countless numbers of first graders were taught, and loved and cared for, far beyond the normal duties of a school teacher in the twenty-three years she taught first grade at Maude Saunders Elementary. In addition to that area of influence on children, she farmed with her husband and fostered some twenty nine children over the years, teaching them morals and values and life lessons they have used all of their adult lives. Dorothy had a love of nature and the beauty of God’s world and on any given day she could be found in her yard, sweat pouring off of her face, dirt on her arms and clothes, lilies grasped in one hand and a spade in the other and that signature smile on her face as she shared the beauty of flowers, not only in her own yard but any willing neighbor’s yard.. Dorothy found good in every person, perhaps something she learned from the hundreds, if not thousands, of children whose lives she touched and whose lives touched her. She had a profound love of God’s Creation and was always lending HIM a helping hand in making it more beautiful in flowers, and shrubs and the happiness of children she inspired. She’s tending God’s garden now.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Calvin E. “Cap” Mooney who passed away in 1979, her brothers,
