Dorothy Jean Mitchell Adkison Graham entered this life on June 25, 1929 in Holmes County Florida as the ninth daughter of Marvin and Lilion Mitchell. She entered rest on November 24, 2015 in North Okaloosa Medical Center, while her son was holding her hand, Lillian French and Rejonna Miller were talking with her, praying and holding her while she slipped from this life. She was 86 years young.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Verla Lee Mitchell, Viola Cook, Refie McCormick, Bonnie McCormick, Myrtis Adkison, Covie Williams and Agnes Adkison, six nephews and six nieces. She provided for her son by waitressing and hostessing in some of the better restaurants in Jacksonville, Florida during the 1950’s and 1960’s. When she returned to her hometown she hostessed at the Ramada Inn. Eventually she entered the retail business at TG&Y and later Wal*Mart where she would retire. She enjoyed working in “her” flower beds as long as her health would allow. After accepting Jesus Christ as her savior she became active in her church, thoroughly enjoying a good preaching and blessing. She was caught more than once saying “We had church today!”, or “I mean we had church today!”. She loved fellowship with her family and friends, recently at the sixty third Mitchell Sisters Family Reunion in Ponce deLeon, Florida.
Among survivors are her son, Hilton Royce Adkison, her sister, Vennie Mitchell, three nephews and six nieces. Numerous great nieces and nephews and one big ole red Doberman, GeorgiaVitti (Gavitti) also survive.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M.. with the funeral beginning at 1: 00P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Larry Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in New Ponce deLeon Cemetery.
