Biography

Mrs. Darlene Mallory Pugh, age 78, widow of the late Danny Martin Pugh passed away Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 in Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice in Pensacola. She and her twin sister were born February 13, 1935, in Parma, Missouri, the daughters of Henry Glen Mallory and Frances Viola Brazier Mallory. When her husband, Air Force Major Dan Pugh was assigned to Site C6 in 1978 they located in DeFuniak Springs. Her husband always chose the smallest town, at any duty station, to live because he wanted their children raised in a small town environment. While her husband was busy with his job, Darlene did a lot of volunteer work in addition to being mom and wife. This path led her to employment with COPE, a job she held until 2001 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Dan, on the other hand, had retired from the military in 1983 and had since opened Po Boys Pawn and Gun, an extremely successful gun store in Northwest Florida. Dan passed away in 2006, Darlene was a Breast Cancer Survivor, something she gave The Lord credit for, and became very active in Southwide Baptist Church. Darlene, as an officer’s wife, saw the world; duty stations in Japan, Australia, and in the U.S., Texas, Tennessee, New York and ultimately Florida. Perfectly content in calling their last duty station, DeFuniak Springs home, her life “after Dan” revolved around her kids and grandkids and her church. She lived out her days in the home she and Dan had purchased and remodeled together until April 13 when she fell at home, an injury she never recovered from. She and Dan are now together in their final duty station.

Among survivors are her daughters, Dana Goddin, Diane Hendrickson and husband Kevin and Deborah Campbell and husband Rick. Eight grandchildren, Jake, Josh, Jeremy, Danny, Kiley, Dylan, Mallory and Lacey and two great grandsons, Trent and Kaiden. Her twin sister, Marlene Wright and husband Johnny also survive.

Memorials may be made in Darlene Pugh’s memory to Southwide Baptist Church or to Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice. A time of visitation will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 4 until 5 P.M. in Southwide Baptist Church with the service beginning at 5P.M. with Brother Buddy Goodman officiating.
